Project management has never been more important. Yet the traditional project manager role has never been more uncertain. That tension became the first graphic. The demand for project management is accelerating because organizations are launching more transformation, AI, infrastructure, and innovation initiatives than ever before. At the same time, AI is changing how projects are managed. That’s the paradox. We may need more project management than ever before... but fewer people doing project management the way we do it today. The second graphic is my attempt to answer the obvious question: So... what happens next? I see three possible futures: 🔹 The Augmented Project Manager, where AI becomes your co-pilot. 🔹 The Agentic Project Organization, where you lead teams made up of both people and AI agents. 🔹 Project Management Without Project Managers, where AI runs structured projects and humans focus on judgment, accountability, and purpose. The interesting part? I don’t think we’ll choose one. We’ll see all three happening at the same time.
