Hi everyone, I just released a new article and podcast episode about AI. This time, I discuss the new article on Artificial Emotional Intelligence, or AEI co-authored with my dear friend Andre Barcaui and published today in the LSE Business Review of The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). AEI is the use of AI to interpret human emotions through subtle cues such as speech, facial expressions, and physiological signals. This technology can revolutionize employment, healthcare, education, and negotiation by identifying emotional cues. For example, Character.AI allows interactions with historical figures, while hirevue.com also uses avatars to assess candidates’ emotional fit. However, in both the article and the podcast, I emphasize one more time the moral and ethical implications of misusing AEI, including privacy concerns and biases based on characteristics like ethnicity or sexual orientation. Technology advancements must walk side by side with ethical and moral considerations to prevent misuse and societal harm. This topic comes at a very good time because many professionals in the #AI community are deeply concerned about OpenAI’s decision to dismantle its team devoted to artificial intelligence risks, exactly when the power of these tools with #chatgpt4o changing one more time how we interact with AI.
