Understanding FEAR: The Root of Uncertainty 😨 As I prepare myself for 2025, I am reviewing some posts, and I had the chance to review this thought-provoking post on fear from Shani Ospina, shared by Alexander Osterwalder on LinkedIn. It resonated deeply, especially when considering the role of fear in project management and the extreme volatility we are facing ahead (btw, volatility was one of the main trends in the Year Ahead Edition of The Economist) 🧐 As project managers, fear often comes from two key factors: a perceived loss of control over endless project dimensions and the projection of negative consequences into the future — missed deadlines, failed deliverables, or dissatisfied stakeholders. These fears can create a ripple effect, influencing not only our decision-making but also team morale. To lead effectively, we must address these fears by: 1️⃣ Focusing on what we can control — prioritizing tasks, managing risks, and communicating clearly. 2️⃣ Reframing negative projections by preparing for worst-case scenarios while staying optimistic about the outcome. Fear is a natural response to uncertainty, and it is a fair sentiment. However, as project managers, it’s our job to channel that fear into thoughtful action, clarity, and resilience for ourselves and our teams. How do you tackle fear when leading a project?
