Hello Everyone A few days ago, I was surprised by the spectacular drop in the share value of Netflix, followed by a series of new show cancelations, potential layoffs, etc. Upon announcing the first reduction in the number of subscribers to the platform in the last ten years, Netflix suffered a devastating drop in the value of its shares. Its value dropped from more than 300 billion dollars at the end of 2020 to 89 billion after the announcement. It is a 70% drop, and to give you some perspective, this loss is four times the value of Warner Bros. (owner of HBO) and the same value as Walt Disney Co, including Pixar, the parks, Marvel, etc. This shift brings us to question why such a disruptive company can have such a dramatic shock, usually expected only for "startups" or companies in traditional segments and at significant risk of being overshadowed. I need to tell you as a disclaimer. I love Netflix, and I admire its management style and culture. One of the best books I've read recently was "No Rules Rules" that tells Netflix corporate culture. Of course that this made me think a lot aiming to identify what we can learn from this type of dramatic volatility. With that, I decided to share three lessons coming from these types of events: 1. We MUST understand potential inflection points that change the direction of a business or market. 2. We need to ACCEPT that projects and initiatives behave much more like a roller coaster than a highway, where fluctuations will happen. 3.
