Hello All, I just came across an incredible explainer on Alex Wang’s profile about how transformers work —the tech behind models like ChatGPT. And honestly, it's one of the clearest breakdowns I’ve ever seen. If you've ever wondered what actually powers these AI models, it all starts with something called the transformer. It’s not just a buzzword; it’s the real game-changer that allows AI to understand language, keep track of context across long conversations, and generate coherent, human-like responses. No transformers = no ChatGPT. It’s that foundational. The video (from the amazing 3Blue1Brown) walks you through the whole thing: how text is broken down into tokens, how those tokens are turned into vectors, and how attention helps the model figure out what really matters in a sentence. A few things that really stood out to me: — Transformers get context. They can track meaning across long sentences and know, for example, that in “The cat that the dog chased ran away,” it’s the cat doing the running. — They work with math, not magic. Words become vectors (lists of numbers) and evolve as the model processes them. — It’s all about prediction. The model generates one token at a time, using everything it knows to guess the next best word. That’s how it writes. If you’re even a little curious about how AI really works under the hood, I can’t recommend this enough. 🔗 Check the 3Blue1Brown website, here: https://www.3blue1brown.com/topics/neural-networks Let me know if you’ve seen it or if you have other favorite resources.
