Hi Everyone Welcome to one more disruptive week. A few days ago, the tech world was taken by surprise with a new tiny Chinese start-up called DeepSeek AI and its new chatbot. The chatbot’s performance was excellent in several benchmarks. But this is not what I want to talk about on this podcast (which is also specially recorded in the video). The disruption is all about the investment to train the model. They said they spent a bit more than US$5mi to train it. This is a fraction of the investment companies like OpenAI and Meta that have spent money training their models. The results were apocalyptical for the stock market. US$1.2 trillion evaporated just today in stock devaluations, according to the Financial Times. If the DeepSeek AI model has the efficiency they mentioned, this will completely change access to these models, democratizing the access and making AI progress even faster. For project management, this will also be disruptive. We will be able to develop our own LLM using these open-source tools at a fraction of the costs.
