Good day, everyone! How often do we feel stuck doing more work and consuming more because our first choices didn't really consider where we wanted to go? Do you remember the last time you got a new suit or dress and immediately needed to go out and get a new pair of shoes to match it? After the new shoes and the clothes, you realize that it is impossible to dress so nicely without a new hairstyle. And there's still more to add to the shopping list:) This is the Diderot effect, the topic of this week's episode of my #5minpodcast. One can reasonably wonder what relevance this has to the work of managing projects and transforming ideas into reality. Can you recall the last time you ran a #sprint, and someone implemented that "cool upgrade" to the development software? Because of that update, the database now appears outdated. You went ahead and upgraded the database as well. The program and database are now so powerful that at that point, the user interface (UI) appears entirely out of place. It was like a modern automobile with an ancient engine. And then you went ahead and modified the UI... This once-easy update has turned into a nightmare. Because what started as a new feature and now requires extra time, resources, etc., will prevent you from completing the intended job for the sprint. As a result of the "Diderot Effect," you find yourself in a challenging situation. But you can avoid this trap. Listen to the podcast to learn my three tips to handle the Diderot Effect. On your side, do you have any experience like that? Any comments or suggestions? Share it below, and let's help each other to deliver better results. I wish you all a fantastic week ahead. Cheers, Ricardo. #dideroteffect #scopecreep #projectmanagement #sprint #agile English version: https://ricardo-vargas.com/podcasts/the-trap-of-diderot-effect-never-implement-a-feature-you-dont-need/ Versão Português: https://ricardo-vargas.com/pt/podcasts/the-trap-of-diderot-effect-never-implement-a-feature-you-dont-need/
