Hi Everyone In the past 2 to 3 years, especially during the apex of #covid19 pandemic, we started to hear about a new term: BANI. The acronym BANI is more recent and was created by anthropologist Jamais Cascio in 2018. The term means "brittle," "anxious," "non-linear," and "incomprehensible," and has become very popular during the pandemic. If you search for BANI on the web, there is a very high chance you will see something: BANI is the evolution of VUCA, from BANI to VUCA, etc. In this week's podcast, I challenge this perception that we are talking about evolving things when we move from the "old" VUCA (Volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) concept to the "new" BANI concept. For me, despite the acronyms BANI and VUCA being written using different letters and words, the two terms reproduce practically the same view of the current scenario, marked by instability, transformation, and inability to predict. This instability causes a feeling of uncertainty, lack of control, and anxiety in people and organizations. It is pointless to say that you are now using BANI instead of VUCA. In reality, you can use whatever you feel comfortable with to reflect the current scenario of businesses and projects.
