Another day I was reviewing some of my documents on a former project I did in the oil and gas sector, and I remembered an excellent tool used to evaluate and respond to significant risks: the Bowtie method.⠀ ⠀ The method has its roots in the oil and gas industry, but it is used today in several areas to visualize the risk of the event, the threats that could trigger the risk and its consequences.⠀ ⠀ The name is quite interesting because the visual representation of the risks and its threats and consequences has the shape of a bowtie :)⠀ ⠀ This method is handy when dealing with relevant risks that can have severe consequences like the loss of lives, damage to the environment, or putting the company’s existence at risk.⠀ ⠀ It is an excellent way to foster group discussion regarding the barriers that should be in place to block the threat or the undesired consequence.⠀ ⠀ I hope you find this tool useful in your “swiss army knife” of managing risks!⠀ ⠀ Have a great week ahead.
